Hidden Promise – Creative Freedom
When Glenville State College approached AIF about creating a film that would encapsulate the success of their Hidden Promise program they prefaced the conversation by saying to creator Robert Tinnell,” Just go do what you do.” Those are the words we live to hear. And that’s just what we did. Shot in stark black-and-white, the resultant film allows GSC students to tell the story of how near-peer mentoring allows at-risk and, in-particular, first-generation, college students to succeed when emerging from the sometimes-challenging world of Appalachia. The inspiration to create the film came from the Near-Peer Mentoring Challenge Video Competition launched by the White House at the request of First Lady, Michelle Obama. The film was completed in late February 2015 and has been submitted for judging.
